Write On, Door County is introducing several free programs in January.

Memoir Monday is a one-hour creative lab intended to encourage senior citizens to chronicle their life stories. Volunteer facilitators will guide participants through prompts designed to get them started and inspire them to put their memories into writing.

Sessions will be held monthly: at Scandia Village in Sister Bay on the first Monday, at the Sturgeon Bay Library on the second Monday, at Write On’s center in Juddville on the third Monday, and at the Aging and Disability Resource Center in Sturgeon Bay on the fourth Monday.

Starting Jan. 14, a new critique group will meet at Write On to provide support, encouragement and feedback to writers of fiction in any genre and of any length. The group will meet monthly on the second Saturday, 10 am – 12 pm.

For those who like to have fun with words, WORD | PLAY is the perfect way to spend the second Saturday of the month, 1-3 pm. That’s when Write On’s Writing Center will be open to families and groups that enjoy playing games such as Tacocat, Pun Intended, Wordsmithery and more, including Spanish-language editions of Scrabble and Magnetic Poetry. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be available.

Art/Speaks – which meets at galleries and museums around the county – will continue in January with the addition of ARTicipation Gallery in Sturgeon Bay. Dates vary by location.

Meetings of the Door County Published Authors Collective now alternate monthly between evening (6-7:30 pm) and morning (10-11:30 am) virtual meetings. The collective is a networking group for writers who have published books – traditionally or self-published – and who live in or have significant ties to Door County. Writers must be members of Write On to take part in the collective. The next meeting is Jan. 9, 6 pm.

Also meeting via Zoom every other Tuesday, 6-8:30 pm, is the Virtual Multi-Genre Critique Group. Led by Paul Brophy and Holly Erskine, it’s for writers at any level who are working in any genre.
