The Door County Library sponsors six year-round book-discussion groups, all of which are open to the public: the Baileys Book Club in Baileys Harbor, Between the Pages in Egg Harbor, Bittersweet Bookies in Fish Creek, the Ephraim Book Group, the Multicultural Book Group in Sturgeon Bay and Readers Rampant in Sister Bay/Liberty Grove.
During the past year, the book groups became a source of connection and refuge for readers who could not gather in person. They also grew their participant numbers as Door County Library users who were not in the county were able to join year-round residents for book discussions via Zoom and Facebook Live.
Which group should you consider joining? Each group has its own vibe, and being online means you can watch past discussions on the library’s YouTube channel (youtube.com/user/dclyouth) or just join discussions online to try them out. No membership is needed to participate in any of the groups. To see the meeting schedules and find out what the groups are reading or have read in the past, go to doorcountylibrary.org/groups.
Even though the libraries are now more accessible, most of the book groups will hold hybrid – a blend of in-person and online – meetings this summer. (Sturgeon Bay’s June meeting will be virtual, however.) Because social distancing is still encouraged at the libraries, book groups will get creative and may meet outside in good weather or in a larger meeting room.
